Save And Restore Your Desktop Icon Positions
Are you bugged because your desktop icons keep moving on you? They're supposed to stay where you put them, but when you change screen resolitions, or update your graphics driver, or install some new program, or the phase of the moon aligns with Mars or something, your icons all get rearranged?
This bugged me too so I looked for an answer and found it!
A DLL was created to save and restore your desktop icon positions and it works great. Just download the layout.zip file and follow these few steps:
- Unzip the layout.zip file.
- Copy layout.dll to your system32 directory. It will be in C:\Windows or maybe in C:\WINNT.
- Right-click on layout.reg and select Merge.
- To save and restore your desktop icon positions, right-click on your desktop and choose "Save Desktop Icon Layout" or "Restore Desktop Icon Layout" as needed.
That's it! Pretty simple but very helpful.
By the way, I can't take credit for this solution. I found it in the How-To Geek Forums at http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/save-and-restore-desktop-icon-positions
