Step 2 - Heat up the water
Have a look at your kettle. You will use it to heat up the water.
- Take the water and place it inside the kettle. This is technically known as
'filling the kettle'
It may be an electric kettle, or one that goes on a gas or electric stove top.
The clue lies in the presence or absence of an electric power lead.
- Power cord present - you have an electric kettle. Ensure that the kettle is plugged in
and that the power is switched on.
- Power cord absent - you probably have a kettle that goes on the stove top. (or you have an
electric ketle and you have lost the power cord). Assuming that it is such a kettle, ensure that
your stove top is switched on. Place the kettle atop.
Wait until the water inside the kettle is boiling. If you have an electric kettle then it
will probably switch itself off once boiled. Note that a stove top kettle will probably
emit an ear piercing whistle indicating that it has boiled and that you should turn the stove off.
