Installing the 16/4 Token Ring PCI Management Adapter drivers

Overview

The adapter was installed in your system when it left the factory. However, if the driver needs to be re-installed after being removed from the Network applet in the Control Panel, you have the option to reinstall the driver. You can use your Resource CD for the installation procedure.

Installing using the Resource CD

  1. Insert the Resource CD into your CD-ROM drive. It will automatically start the installation process.
  2. After installation, double-click on the RCDMENU icon under the resource CD.
  3. The next screen will present a selection of drop down menus under system model, operating system, device type and topic.
  4. Under device type, select Network (NIC) and under the topic, select drivers. Also select the operating system that you are about to install the device on. If you know your system model, you can select that from the drop down menu in the system model.
  5. The adjacent screen will give you a list of NIC drivers on your resource CD. Select the drivers for 16/4 Token Ring PCI Management Adapter by double-clicking on the name.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Extract the driver files through the self-extracting dialog box.

Instructions to re-enable drivers for your adapter for Windows 2000

  2. At the following screen, click "Configure"
  3. In the "Device usage" drop down box, select the "Use this device (enable)" option and click "OK".
  4. Click "OK" again. The driver is again enabled.

Using your adapter

To use your adapter, connect it to a network.

  1. Plug one (1) end of a Network Cable into the Adapter’s RJ-45 socket or the DB-9 connector.
  2. Plug the other end of the cable into a Token Ring Hub port or switch.
  3. Make sure that if the machine is first on the ring, the data speed is set to either 16/4 Mbps and NOT to auto-detect.
