Thank you for your interest in the Troi Grabber Plug-in. This FileMaker^® Pro plug-in adds Video Image Grabbing functions to FileMaker. With it you can take a picture from a video camera and put it into a container field. You can also grab a movie to disk.

This cross-platform plug-in is compatible with FileMaker Pro 12, FileMaker Pro 11 and FileMaker Pro 10 and enhances their functions. Finally you can do things you thought were still impossible to do with FileMaker Pro. Grab the video directly into your database by using this plug-in!

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

INSTALLING A (TROI) PLUG-IN FOR THE FIRST TIME.

NEW Starting with FileMaker Pro 12 a plug-in can be installed directly from a container field! So if you are using FileMaker Pro 12 installation is very easy: just open the "All Grabber Examples.fmp12" example file and the startup script will install the plug-in for you. See also the example file EasyInstallTroiPlugins.fmp12 (which is included in our .fmp12 formatted download package) which contains the actual plug-in and install script.

To install the plug-in for FileMaker Pro 9 to 11 follow these instructions:

• For Mac OS X: put the file "Troi_Grabber.fmplugin" from the folder "Mac OS Plug-in" into the "Extensions" folder in the FileMaker Pro 12 folder (or the FileMaker Pro 11 or 10 folder). If you have installed previous versions of this plug-in, you must remove them.
• For Windows: put the file "Troi_Grabber.fmx" from the directory "Windows Plug-in" into the "Extensions" subdirectory in the FileMaker Pro 12 directory (or the FileMaker Pro 11 or 10 directory). If you have installed previous versions of this plug-in, you must remove them.

You may want to install other plug-ins before proceeding. Then (re)start FileMaker Pro. Troi Grabber Plug-in will display a dialog box, indicating that it is loading and showing the registration status. You can now open the file "All Grabber Examples.fp7" to see how to use the plug-in's functions.

What Troi Grabber Plug-in can do for you

The Grabber functions make it possible to preview a live video image, for example from a webcam, on the FileMaker layout. With a click the user can grab the image, and have it saved into a container field. You can also record movies and save them to disk.

Troi Grabber Plug-in was designed and implemented by Peter Baanen of Troi Automatisering. The Windows version of this software is based in part on the work of the Independent JPEG Group.

System requirements

System requirements Mac

Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard), Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard), Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).
QuickTime 7 or later.

You also need:

• a QuickTime compatible video device
• a QuickTime driver for this video device

Mac OS X comes with drivers for quite a few devices, like DV camcorders via firewire. Also webcams like the built-in iSight should work.

System requirements Windows

Windows XP (Service Pack 2) on Intel-compatible computer, Pentium III 500MHz or higher.
Windows Vista on Intel-compatible computer, Pentium III 800MHz or higher.
Windows 7 on Intel-compatible computer 1 GHz or faster.

You also need:

• a TWAIN compatible input source, like a video camera (Camcorder) or a scanner
• installed TWAIN drivers for this input source

FileMaker requirements

FileMaker Pro 10 or FileMaker Pro Advanced 10 or higher.
FileMaker Pro 11 or FileMaker Pro Advanced 11 or higher.
FileMaker Pro 12 or FileMaker Pro Advanced 12 or higher.

* NOTE Troi Grabber Plug-in will probably run fine with earlier FileMaker versions 7 to 9, but we have not tested these earlier FileMaker versions and we do not provide support for this. Also note that the example files use features only available in FileMaker Pro 9 and higher.

Troi Grabber Plug-in version 2.x does not run on versions prior to FileMaker Pro 7. If you need to run on versions prior to FileMaker Pro 7: see our web site for Troi Grabber Plug-in 1.5.

Also note that Troi Grabber Plug-in, with older FileMaker versions, will probably run on older operating systems for example Mac OS X 10.3.9 or Windows 2000, however, we do not support this.

NOTE 2 Troi Grabber Plug-in can NOT be used by FileMaker Server as a server-side plug-in or as a plug-in used by the web publishing engine, as the plug-in requires Graphic User Interface (GUI), which is not possible on FileMaker Server.

Troi Grabber Plug-in is a commercial product

You can try-before-you-buy. This means that you are free and invited to test the plug-in 30 days before you pay. You may also make copies of the original and complete package (including this Read Me file) and distribute it to customers, friends etc. However, you may not distribute a modified or licensed version.

Use Troi Grabber Plug-in at your own risk

Although Troi Grabber Plug-in was tested carefully, we can not be responsible for any damages resulting from using this software. Also please try it out on a test database. Your system may be using an extension (unknown to us) that interferes with the proper functioning of Troi Grabber Plug-in.

We like to hear feedback on the benefits and shortcomings of the plug-in. Please include the platform and operating system in your suggestions and comments.

What are the costs?

Troi Grabber Plug-in is more expensive than our other plug-ins, as it is a specialized plug-in, with a limited customer base. We currently only sell a cross-platform developer license which allows you to deploy it with your solution, both on Mac OS X and on Windows:

Upgrades from previous versions

We don't have an upgrade option for single licenses. We only have an upgrade option for developer licenses. Please contact us if you have any questions about this.

How to pay?

Paying for a license is easy. We have several ways to pay. More information on this can be found on the order page on our web site: http://www.troi.com/software/order.html. You can pay online by credit card via Kagi, who also accepts PayPal, checks and cash.

Protection and unlocking the application

Troi Grabber Plug-in has a protection scheme. After you pay Troi Automatisering will tell you how to indicate to Troi Grabber Plug-in that you have paid the license fee.

After you've supplied the payment data the following is changed:

• the not registered warning is replaced by your name.
• the flash screen that shows at the first time the plug-in is used is removed. Of course also the delay (which is longer after 30 days of use) will be removed.
• the plug-in no longer stops working after 60 minutes.
